This Week: Hope!

Happy Monday! I am feeling pretty good today. I had a fun weekend, got plenty of sleep, and am feeling hopeful about the state of the world for the first time in a while. Last week was very busy with work so I was pleased to realize I didn’t have too much going on this week and could slow down a bit. I’m also in disbelief that we’re already in late July. Yesterday we wandered around Home Goods and the halloween decor was already out! I’m not ready to jump to fall just yet but it was cozy to be reminded of what’s to come. 

Until then I will keep applying sunscreen, chugging water, and being perpetually a little bit sweaty!

What I’m…

…Reading: Egg: A Dozen Ovatures by Lizzie Stark and Ultra-Something by Brendan Leonard. Egg is already such a fascinating read and I am maybe 50ish pages in. Ultra-Something is just inspirational and wonderful and I can’t believe it took me so long to get to. I love all of Brendan’s work!

…Eating: Greek yogurt with berries and granola. I recently started roughly tracking my protein consumption to see if I was getting anywhere near the recommended amount for runners/lifters (1.7 g of protein per kilogram of bodyweight, if you were curious). Turns out that getting sufficient protein is super challenging when you don’t eat a ton of meat! Yogurt parfaits have been a staple in my work lunch to help get closer to my protein goal. I put lots of fresh berries and granola and normally enjoy it as an afternoon snack – super satiating! 

…Wearing: JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk. I need a haircut. Between being outdoors, chlorinated pool water, and general neglect, my hair has been struggling lately. The ends feel dry at times and I haven’t put much effort into hydrating and emphasizing the curls in my hair. A couple Christmases ago I got a bunch of JVN hair products and they’ve been pretty hit or miss for me. However, the blowout styling milk works freakishly well. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a heat protectant but – when I use it before I plop my hair – my curls are always well defined and soft and luscious. 

…Listening to: Believe in the Run’s interview with ultrarunner Emily Halnon. What a cool woman. I listened to this podcast episode on my long run yesterday and it was so inspirational. Not only has she done incredible running things, but it served as a reminder to live your life – even with a full time job! She has a book out this year called To the Gorge and I can’t wait to read it.

…Drinking: Shirley Temples. Last week we had a board meeting at work and after one of the days my coworkers and I went to the hotel bar. I don’t really drink these days so I ended up having two shirley temples. A classic! All I needed was some crappy chex mix rip off and I could’ve been 10 years old at a Embassy Suites happy hour. 

…Thinking About: Signing up to attempt MMT again in 2025. I am 99.8% sure I am going to do it. Time will tell.

…Excited For: Kamala Harris! 🙂
