This Week: Slow Summer Vibes

Hi! I cannot believe it’s almost August. This summer has been so sweet. As a matter of fact, I have some oat crumble strawberry bars in the oven right now and I might make some banana muffins too. I’ll let you know how they taste!

While July is nearly over, time hasn’t felt rushed and I’ve been cherishing my slow mornings and easy weeknights. Weekends continue to be an absolute blast. With less going on right now, I have been making an effort to really enjoy things. My coffee. My books. Each moment. I must recommend you do the same. Anyway, here’s another weekly “newsletter” for ya!

What I’m…

…Reading: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I had checked out the third book of a trilogy I’d been reading but found that I wasn’t inspired. (Plus I read the end and wasn’t intrigued enough with the story anymore to read all 500+ pages.) Patrick and I had been talking about what a disservice required reading does to so many teens because the classics don’t always resonate when you have relatively minimal life experience. So, when I decided not to read my library book, I perused my own bookshelves and decided to reread The Catcher in the Rye instead! Already I can tell you that it is such a different reading experience as an adult.

Side note: Patrick has not read this book! I read it in high school and by “read” I really mean skimmed. How he got through high school without ever reading it is beyond me.

…Eating: Peaches (yum)! I’ve been buying bags of peaches for weeks now but lately they’ve been perfect. Not too hard but not mushy either. I’m in love.

[By the way, I finished Egg and it was a fascinating book. A bit challenging to read at times (because there are some things I’d just rather not know) but overall 5/5 stars.]

…Wearing: My glasses. I’ve been trying to get in the habit of wearing them anytime I have my contacts out (aka right when I wake up and just before bed) to lessen the strain on my eyes. I don’t wear my glasses in daily life because I don’t love them and I must have sunglasses on when I’m outside!

…Listening to: This Stuff You Should Know episode about Dr. Bronner. That man was truly wild. I’ve always wondered what the deal was with the intense amount of text on the Bronner soap bottles and now I know!

…Drinking: Various espresso drinks… with pumpkin spice sprinkled in. I will not apologize for this! I am actively enjoying summer and not trying to usher in fall too soon, but on cloudy, gray days I can’t help but get curious for fall comforts. And that includes pumpkin spice. I haven’t bought a syrup or anything, I’m legitimately just sprinkling in pumpkin spices. Come at me!!

…Thinking About: How I had been wanting to get rid of the runner we have in our kitchen because it was perpetually dirty and gross. Plus it was a Ruggable so it was harder to clean than they say. Fortunately (and unfortunately), Bear got sick all over it last night so we threw it out. Hello cleaner kitchen floors!

…Excited For: More mountain biking! I took an REI Intro to Mountain Biking class this weekend and it made a world of a difference for my comfort level on that bike. It was so informative and practical and I rode again the next day. I can’t wait to continue honing my skills and having another way to have fun on the trails.

What about you?!
