After a successful weekend, I am happy to announce that I am just chilling out this week. No running. No lifting. Just very gentle yoga and lounging around. I worried that I would get antsy, but I guess I put in enough of an effort that my body and brain both feel pleased to just not do anything.
That said, I have a list of things I want to do that are totally not training related and that I’ve been putting off in lieu of a run or some other activity! Earlier this week I put on a movie (a movie! Me?! Wild.) and started cleaning up the corner of our bedroom that has been a mess since we moved in. I’m talking bags of clothes to donate and random boxes of stuff that were “packed” in our final days of moving. Our room feels so clean and big now! Other items to tackle include cleaning my office, hanging photos on our walls, and buying more mulch for our backyard. It feels good.
I hope you are enjoying this last week of August! I can’t believe it’s almost Labor Day already. Also on my list of to-dos for the week: pool time. I’ve got to get in those last few pool days before it closes for the season! 🙂
What I’m…
…Reading: Circe by Madeline Miller. A prize for completing the library’s summer reading challenge included a free book coupon from the Friends of the Arlington Library’s book sale! I used mine to pick up Circe because I knew it (and Song of Achilles) was wildly popular. Plus, my friend Adina had recommended her to me many times. I am so enjoying it! I’m also realizing that I know basically nothing about Greek mythology, so every story within it is a fun surprise.

…Eating: Sourdough bread – yum. I bought a loaf of sourdough bread from the farmer’s market on Sunday and then Patrick made homemade sourdough on Monday! I put half of the farmer’s market bread in the freezer and we already ate the other half. Patrick’s fresh bread is sitting on the counter. We saved half a loaf for ourselves and gave the other half and another whole boule to our neighbors. Another perk of the weather cooling down? More bread baking!

…Wearing: Make up, again. After ditching make up for the summer – because who wants to sweat with foundation on?! – I decided to try it out for size again. It still makes me feel like I’m playing pretend – LOL. I do enjoy the feeling of putting it on each morning and taking it off every evening. Am I sure that the colors I’m using are right for my complexion? Not really. But I don’t think I look like a clown, so it’s all working out.
…Listening to: Sympathy is a knife by Charli XCX. I can’t explain it but something about this song scratches an itch in my brain. The beat is generally up my aisle, but I think it’s the key that she sings that chorus in that I love. I listened to it during my half marathon multiple times and it made me want to work harder. Can’t explain it!
…Drinking: Pina Colada Nuun. I don’t remember how I got my hands on this flavor, but it is fun! I haven’t had a real pina colada in a long time (or maybe ever), but this is exactly what I would think it tastes like!
…Thinking About: What to do this Labor Day weekend. I know we’ll do some trail running and hopefully some swimming, but beyond that we don’t have many plans! It’s actually pretty nice but also I want to be sure to maximize the holiday weekend fun.
…Excited For: Working with a coach this fall! I officially signed up with a coach to get me through the Richmond Marathon in November and MMT next May. It feels like a real leap for me after making up all my own training the past many years. Trusting someone else with my training is a little scary but I am really excited to see how it all goes. Stay tuned for updates!
I hope you are having a fantastic week and are thrilled for the upcoming holiday.
Until later,
JN
