MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #12

Happy Friday! This week has been relatively uneventful. Patrick and I have both been sleeping in a lot and busy running in the evenings. I’m not complaining too much because we’ve got some jam-packed weekends ahead! We’re already more than halfway through September (uhhh, how?) but I must admit that I am looking forward to October.

I’ve been toying with the idea of setting goals for myself next month. I used to do this all the time and sometimes became over fixated on them. I like the idea of setting a financial goal, a personal goal, and maybe one more in another category of life. Maybe I will, maybe I won’t! Time will tell. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to this week:

What I’m…

…Reading: Still slowly getting through the same books as before. The more I read Chain-Gang All-Stars, the more time I need to absorb and digest it. It is intense. I was telling Patrick last night that I can’t even give a proper summary of the reading experience because it is so dynamic and complex. All that to say, I would recommend this book but know that it is certainly not a casual read.

…Eating: As my running and lifting intensity goes up, so does my appetite! I’ve been so hungry lately. To get proper carbs and protein, I’ve been drinking a lot of protein smoothies again and that helps a lot. Other than that, I’ve been enjoying planning meals that are fitting to the change of weather here in NOVA. On the menu this week:

  • Black bean and sweet potato tacos
  • Lasagna soup
  • Homemade pizza
  • Harvest bowl salads
  • Tofu stir fry

…Wearing: New pajamas! I love a pajama set. Patrick bought me pajamas with s’mores on them this week and I tried them out last night. In fact, I am wearing them as I write this. They’re so comfy!

…Listening to: Choose Strong podcast with Sally and Eddie McRae. I’m pretty sure I’ve written about this one before but it’s been my go-to podcast on the run lately. It’s entertaining and inspiring and Sally provides so much ultrarunning advice that I’ve been tucking away and mulling over in advance of MMT next year. I’ve been doing more workouts in my running (track and tempo stuff) that include long warm-ups and cool downs. I listen to the podcast during those periods of the run and then switch to some upbeat music when I am picking up the pace.

…Trying: My new reading chair! My mom got this for us as our housewarming gift and it’s great. Our office is pretty small so I needed something with a small footprint and this chair is perfect for that. It’s also shockingly comfortable considering it came from Amazon. We moved the lamp to sit behind the chair for perfect reading light too. I’m sitting in it now as I type!

…Thinking About: How early it gets dark now. The other day I checked and the sunset was at 7:20 pm. Ooof. Obviously I knew this was coming but it still surprises me every day. I did my first run with a headlamp this week and it was… an adjustment. It’s weird!

…Excited For: A music festival this weekend! This will be both of our first music festivals ever. I have no idea what to expect but am looking forward to the experience. Wish us luck!

Have a great weekend!
