this week #13

Hi everybody! What a week. I feel inspired and sleepy and chill all at once. This week has felt unusually long! We got home from Richmond after midnight on Monday and then it has been go go go since then. I’m really looking forward to some downtime this weekend to run, clean the house, and generally relax a bit. Here’s some more about my week!

What I’m…

…Reading: How Democrats Can Win Georgia, One Losing Race at a Time by Pema Levy. This is an article and a relatively quick read – highly recommend! I thought it was inspiring, whip smart, and all around awesome.

…Eating: Homemade apple cake made by our neighbor. The other night we were invited over post-run to enjoy this cake and it was a 10/10 experience. I love where we live and I love fall baked goods!

…Wearing/Using: An umbrella! It has been gray, rainy, and humid in Arlington recently with no real end in sight. This week has also been a little more active on the work front, so I’ve been out and about in DC in the rain more than usual. My hair may not recover well once it’s in the humidity, but at least I’m not soaked!

…Listening to: Oysters In My Pocket by Royel Otis. This band was one of the bigger sets at Iron Blossom this week and I thought they were fantastic. This song in particular makes me want to just jump around and dance! They remind me of a more modern MGMT.

…Trying: To stay awake. Part of this week being busier than usual has included later evenings and earlier mornings than I’m used to. I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee. I can’t wait to sleep in sometime soon and reset next week. I don’t mind hustling, but I prefer to do it well-rested!

Author’s note: Patrick also tried his first ever to Costco hot dog this week! I think he liked it.

…Thinking About: Doing more – politically. I told myself that when I left my toxic job I would spend more time and energy getting involved in political activism. Over the last many months I have been slowly but surely dipping my toes more into volunteerism, but lately I feel like I’m just about to hit my stride. It feels very good.

…Excited For: Postcard writing! I am really hoping they arrive pretty soon and then I plan to host a big ole dinner party to gather people to help me write them. I’m thinking it’ll be called: Dinner, Drinks, and Democratic Postcards. Sounds like fun to me!

September has felt unexpectedly like a “blah” month for me. I think it’s mostly just a hard comedown from the activities and adventures of the summer. If you’re feeling the same, you’re not alone! I hope you’ve had a great week and have a fun, but restorative weekend ahead.

Love,

JN
