this week #15

It’s a beautiful week here in Arlington and I am overjoyed. It gets downright chilly overnight, people are putting up more Halloween decorations, and I put pumpkin whipped cream in my coffee this morning. Can’t really complain over here. Now that it properly feels like fall, I am feeling myself get more excited about all the potential fall activities! I sense that pumpkin carving is in my future.

Anyway, I hope you’re having an equally wonderful week and are putting in the work to live a life you love. Here’s what I’m…

…Reading: The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and I just started Boom Town by Sam Anderson. The Bluest Eye is my first Toni Morrison book and the writing is so beautiful and thoughtful that I sometimes have to pause and just soak it all in. Boom Town is a book about the history of Oklahoma City and I just started it but it looks like it’s going to be a promising read. I actually picked it (along with I Cheerfully Refuse) up at the library last night at the end of my run. Both books were too big to go into my pack, so I ran up a hill carrying one in each hand.

…Eating: On the go! This week has been a little busy with running and yoga and hanging out with neighbors, so everything we’ve been making for dinner has been uber quick and thrown together. One of my favorite insta-meals is a club sandwich (last night’s dinner)! We also have tacos and butter chicken on the menu for the week, but those are a bit more involved so we haven’t gotten around to making them yet. When I was packing my lunch for today I found myself in an awkward pickle of nothing to bring. I didn’t want to buy lunch, so I found a cup of noodles in the pantry and am going with that!

…Wearing: My headlamp. Yes, folks, that time of year is officially upon us. I have to finally accept the fact that many of my runs will be in the dark and my headlamp is now once again a mandatory piece of running gear. It’s fine and eventually I get used to it, but I was in denial that the sun was already setting by 6:40. Such is life!

…Listening to: Cha Cha by Sophie Hunter. Her promotional videos for this song had been popping up on my Instagram for a while, so I finally tracked down the whole song on Spotify. It is a 10/10 running song.

…Trying: solidcore! A friend of mine invited me as her guest and I am pretty worried that it is going to totally mess me up – LOL. I do workout a lot, but this will be a very novel stimulus for my muscles and is bound to hurt!

…Thinking About: How much fun trail running is. I had been mostly road running for a while, so this weekend Patrick and I took our long runs to the trail! We went down to Prince William Forest Park. I’ve run there quite a bit, but overdid it the first few years we lived here so I really needed a break from those particular trails. It was fun to go back and the changing foliage certainly didn’t hurt!

…Excited For: The Richmond Marathon! It’s going to be here before we know it. I’m hopeful for a fun run in some beautiful weather!

I hope you’re putting on a sweater and enjoying a warm drink these days! Have a great weekend!
