MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #18

Hello and happy Monday! It’s going to be quite the week, isn’t it? I never got around to writing one of these last week, so I figured I’d get a head start this week. Is anyone else on the verge of an absolute meltdown? DC is sort of a ghost town right now. Driving into work, I easily experienced the least amount of traffic I’ve seen since the pandemic.

Deep breaths, people, deep breaths. As for me, here’s what I’ve spent the last week…

…Reading: I started One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig after Erica and Sabrina both said it was good. I’m only a dozen chapters in, but I like it so far! I’m reading it via the Kindle app on my phone, which is not my favorite way to read, but it is quite convenient.

…Eating: I’ve been working hard to eat more fruits and vegetables and I think I’ve been pretty successful! I think I eat pretty well, but it’s sort of shocking to realize how easy it is to just… not eat produce. I’ve been enjoying carrot chips and bell peppers and “dirty” apples!

…Wearing: Long sleeves! Halloween was weirdly warm, but the next day it cooled off significantly and it’s been a treat. In fact, I’m wearing a turtleneck right now! When I got out of bed this morning I even put on fuzzy socks.

…Listening to: That’s So True by Gracie Abrams. I’m not the biggest Gracie Abrams fan in the world (yet! The music is growing on me.), but this song is so wonderful. It is especially nice to listen to while you’re running downhill on a sunny day – AKA me during my long run yesterday!

…Trying: Chobani’s pumpkin spice coffee creamer. I like that it’s pretty much just flavored half and half (rather than whatever is in Coffeemate creamers) and it’s not too sweet. The flavor isn’t mindblowing, but it’s keeping me in the fall spirit!

…Thinking About: Getting a massage. My hips and calves have been cranky lately, so a pre-marathon massage sounds spectacular! We’ll see if I can find the time in the next two weeks to go relax and get these tight muscles soothed.

…Excited For: Thanksgiving… and Christmas… I am seriously resisting the urge to get Christmas-y too soon, but I would also like to lodge a formal complaint about how late in the month Thanksgiving is this year! I saw someone post about a “Martini Party Christmas playlist” on Spotify and you better believe I want to listen to it so badly. I won’t. Yet.

I hope you are hanging on this week! A coworker shared this tweet and it made me smile because it’s just the truth.

Love,

JN
