Juliana Moves

MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

What’s new?

Has anyone asked you that question lately? “What’s new?” I have such a hard time answering it. Life has been pretty calm and pleasant, even when it’s not perfect, so I’m realizing how often I used to respond to that question with whatever latest insanity had been going on in my life.

Nowadays, I struggle to answer because I think I’m quietly worried that my life will sound boring! Or maybe I just don’t think the things I’m up to will be all that interesting to someone else. Either way, these worries are very silly since the people asking me “what’s new?” are almost always family or friends.

Regardless, when I am asked this I sit there stumped. My brain short circuits and I can’t think of anything I’ve got going on whatsoever. On this blog I often write about some of the stuff going on in my life, but even then I forget so much! Or just don’t think it’s blog-worthy news. So, here’s a list of general life updates from the last few weeks. Maybe it’ll serve as a little refresher for me headed into the holiday season and you can get a glimpse into the day to day shenanigans of Juliana.

  • I filmed a silly little reel of me making an americano (it was fun to make it the video for the sake of making something)
  • Erica and Derek got me a Theragun last year and I forget I own it, but I used it a lot this week and I’m convinced that there is no injury that foam rolling/theragunning your quad can’t fix
  • Patrick and I are going to dinner and a show tonight! (Carbonara and a Jessica Vosk holiday concert at the Kennedy Center)
  • Christmas shopping is really hard this year! I’m just not in the mood to shop, I guess
  • I finished Nancy Pelosi’s book The Art of Power and loved it. I’ve been enjoying my nonfiction reads more than usual these days
  • Lifting has finally started feeling better post-marathon!
  • I realized the other day that it’s officially been about one year since I submitted my resignation to my last job. Best decision I’ve ever made
  • I really want to organize our second bedroom closet but can’t bring myself to commit to it. I would also love the organize the way we store our food in the kitchen but I need a blizzard or insane storm to come through to force me indoors
    • Wait a second, who am I kidding? I’m already indoors plenty so I don’t have an excuse
  • The paint in our bathtub is chipping off (ugh) so I’ve been researching the difference between bathtub refinishing and casting
  • I put Alaska in her winter jacket for our walk today and it is so big on her now! She’s so freaking cute. We bought it years ago back in TX when Alaska was more barrel-shaped. Bear has one too but his actual coat is thicker and he loves the cold
  • I’ve been weirdly into celery and PB lately… but instead of raisins for ants on a log, I like mini chocolate chips
  • I randomly decided to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack on a run recently and I had forgotten how hard it slaps. I practically had it memorized in 2018, but it’s been a minute! The Hercules Mulligan part in The World Turn Upside Down is top tier
  • I think that Patrick and I need a smaller kitchen table. It could already be smaller – and was when we first moved in – because you can remove the middle section of the table but Patrick secretly added it back in one day. In my opinion, the larger the table, the more clutter we put on it
  • I haven’t seen the Wicked movie yet but I want to

And that’s all I’ve got, folks! This was actually kind of fun and I wish we’d been discussing these things over coffee.

Have a great weekend!
