MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #36

Hi, I’m back! I took the week off before MMT and am now trudging through the late-onset exhaustion hitting me many days post-race. Long story short, I still didn’t get to the finish, but I did make it 76 miles! I am incredibly proud. Once my brain fog is actually gone I want to write up a full recap, but I plainly don’t have the energy for that yet. I will say that I am excited for what comes next and to continue building up my experience to eventually try again.

As mentioned, I was feeling pretty energetic Sunday into Monday, but Tuesday night the exhaustion hit for real. I have been so so tired and sleepy since then and can feel myself flagging even on walks. Weird stuff! I partly blame the rainy, cool weather we’ve been having.

While I’ve been recovering all week, here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: Well, I did decide to DNF the fiction book I was reading because I just wasn’t into it. I’m normally terrible about that and will push through and finish, so way to go me! I devoured The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side by Agatha Christie in two or three days, AND I guessed whodunnit pretty early in the book! I am ready to be an investigator.

I’m also reading Money for Change by Kara Perez of Bravely Go. Bravely is what helped me figure out my own personal finance for the first time in 2018/2019, so I am loving the book! My library had the book from before it had a title change, hence the photo below.

…Eating: Whatever is in our fridge, Chopped style. Our fridge has been so full of random stuff, so rather than do a full grocery shopping trip this week I decided we needed to eat down what we had. I bought the typical produce and basics that we always need, but beyond that I am putting together whatever I can find. Leftovers, stuff from the freezer, small plates of random stuff. It’s working!

Also, lattes. Because I need the caffeine and the coziness!

…Wearing: Cozy socks (and a sweatshirt)! The socks are because my feet were so blistered during MMT that I had to slather them in Aquaphor and wear the coziest, loosest socks I owned. (Turns out this meant almost exclusively Christmas socks). It worked out nicely though because we’ve had an unusual cool front come through this week!

…Listening to: And a Bottle of Rum by Wayne Curtis audiobook. My brother recommended this book to me a while back, and I tried to check it out recently but my library only had the audiobook version. I decided to give it a go and am liking it! It does make me want a Dark and Stormy…

…Trying: To decide what to do next in my running. I have so many things I want to do, but also need to be patient and strategic so as to not burn myself out. I’m pretty pleased that I finished my race thinking “I want more” and not “I never want to run again!”

…Generally Enjoying: Earlier this week we went to a library event about Robert Hanssen and it was so fascinating! Man, I love learning about stuff. Were we the youngest people in the room by far? Yes! Did I immediately put a spy book on my TBR list? Also yes!

…Excited For: Our vacation next week! Cross your fingers for great weather!

Wow, I must admit that writing that was a wee bit tiring. I am going back to lounging now.

Have an awesome Memorial Day weekend!

Love,

JN
