Christmas Coffee Advent Update #2

In case you were wondering, we’re still going strong with our seasonal celebration of coffee! This experience has made me consider doing stuff like this more frequently. Not a whole advent calendar, per se, but maybe a planned week of seasonal activities here and there. We’ll see!

Day 5: Make an espresso con panna with seasonal whipped cream

Topped with peppermint whipped cream. It was delicious! Cozy pajama pants are just a bonus.

Day 6: Host a Christmas coffee bar

Success! I did not get a single picture when people were actually in the house… Oops! We made a ton of baked treats and prepped holiday simple syrups (peppermint and brown sugar vanilla). I had so much fun seeing everyone and exercising my barista skills again.

Day 7: Make a cafe au lait

Featuring, more cozy pajama pants. A cafe au lait is a cup of coffee with steamed milk. I used the coffee function on our espresso machine to ensure it would be strong enough to handle all that milk. It was delicious!

Day 8: Use the Clever

The Clever is an interesting contraption that combines immersion and pour over techniques. It was so fascinating to consider how different in tasted from my regular, drip coffee.

Day 9: Enjoy your coffee with a wintery baked good

Fortunately, we had plenty of leftover baked goods from our coffee bar! I had a cranberry orange muffin. Yum. Patrick also enjoyed a cookie because it’s Christmas time, y’all!

Day 10: Bring a Christmas-y drink to work

Again, using leftover goodies from the party, I made a peppermint mocha latte to bring with me. It was divine. I was worried the peppermint syrup would be too strong but it was just right. I brought the coffee fixings to work so that my coworkers could enjoy a Christmas coffee drink too!

Day 11: Make a Mokapot

Even our Mokapot is Christmas-y! 😉 I love brewing a Mokapot. The entire process feels so scientific to me! Is it a little strong and sludgy for my tastes? Perhaps. Nothing some milk can’t fix!

And, just for a bonus, look at this beautiful tree I saw in Union Station when I got off the train this morning!

Love,

JN
