MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #55

Good morning and happy Thursday! Christmas is only one week away! I hope you are continuing to have a lovely holiday season. This was a busy week for me between work and travel (and getting sick). But here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: I finished The Great Gatsby and Death on the Nile last week! I enjoyed both of them immensely. I really want to rewatch the newer Gatsby movie that came out when I was in high school, and I am definitely going to watch Death on the Nile. My theory of whodunnit was pretty accurate! Wasn’t expecting the very end though. Now I am reading The Milky Way: An Autobiography of Our Galaxy by Moiya McTier and might start Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid soon.

…Wearing: My new sleeping bag suit! Sabrina got me this for Christmas and I love it. On Tuesday I put it on as soon as I got out of bed and was extremely cozy on the couch. I can’t wait to wear it after freezing cold trail runs and while sitting outside.

…Listening to: Over the Love by Florence and the Machine. This is from The Great Gatsby soundtrack. I remember listening to it a lot at the end of my senior year, particularly around prom time, and it still holds up. Gah, it’s a gorgeous song.

…Trying: To understand why I have gotten sick… twice! I used to pride myself on how rarely I got sick. Before we went to Dallas, I had what felt like a severe cold. Now, after our trip, I have been feeling generally crappy and bleh and I slept 10:30 hours last night. I even Ubered home from work because I took the train and physically could not handle being upright. Are diseases getting stronger? Is my immune system getting weaker? This concerns me!

…Thinking About: Our big family Christmas in Dallas! We all gathered together over the weekend to celebrate Christmas in person (and run races during the Dallas Marathon weekend). It was the first time we had all been together since Patrick and I got married in June 2020! Nuts!

…Watching: Die Hard. I had to throw this into the list because it’s so rare that I watch anything! When I was lounging in bed for hours yesterday, I stumbled upon it on Disney Plus and decided to watch. I had been talking about watching it after hearing a debate about whether or not it’s a Christmas movie in a podcast. It’s a great movie. And it is definitely a Christmas movie.

…Excited For: Falling Water 100k! I registered on Sunday night. Despite the fact that I have had a weird and rough time with training over the last few weeks, I am excited to commit to training for this. This happened last year too, but after the holidays it tends to get easier to focus.

Love,

JN
