I come to you today with a very simple post: five lovely things I’ve encountered, enjoyed, or experienced lately! Today is a bit gloomy, but we’ve otherwise had fantastic weather this week and it’s hard not to feel joyful when the sun is shining. 🙂
It’s a bit cliche, but taking the time to reflect on joy-inducing moments and experiences makes life feel less rushed and time less hurried. As we enter the best two seasons of the year, I’m determined to soak it all up and have the best time ever.
My tomato art

We’ve been talking about putting up backsplash in our kitchen ever since we bought the house, but have not made much (read: any) progress. A few weeks ago, I thought it would be a fun idea to populate the area with food and kitchen related art and tchotchkes instead!
I had a teeny tiny canvas and easel, so I quickly painted a little tomato on it. I was very pleased with how it turned out! It lives on the wall next to our sink, so it gets splashed from time to time and the watercolor has spread. I think it looks like the tomato itself has been freshly washed and still has droplets on it. It makes me happy every time I see it.
Raye’s new album

I cannot stop listening to this work of art. Raye is so talented. This album is moving and powerful and still makes you want to jump and dance. I cannot recommend it enough!
Some great tracks to start with: I Will Overcome, The WhatsApp Shakespeare, Click Clack Symphony, I Know You’re Hurting, Life Boat, and Joy.
Space buns

I don’t wear hats casually all that often, but when I do, I don’t like wearing my hair down. Way too poofy! Putting a ponytail through the back hat hole (does it have a real name??) works okay but is also not my favorite. Instead, I sometimes throw my hair into two messy little buns low on my head and I love it.
Does it look like an absolute mess from behind? Almost certainly! But it’s off my neck and that’s all I care about!
Al fresco dining + rooftop bonus

I’ve written before about how much I enjoy dining al fresco when the weather is good, but this week I spent a few lunches on my work’s rooftop which enhances the experience! It is always nice to get out of the office. Add in some delicious food and some brilliantly summer weather and I am a very happy lady.

Springtime blooms

DC is all around gorgeous in the springtime. Between the cherry blossoms, tulips, and other beautiful plants flowering around us, my allergies might be terrible but the views are fantastic. Yesterday I had to walk to the bank for work and encountered these stunning tulips in giant planters along North Capitol. The teller and I even had a conversation about how beautiful they are! She commented that she’s watched so many people stop to take photos of them.
After I finished my deposit, I went outside… and promptly took a photo of the flowers! I can’t help it! Lovely.
I hope you’ve had a great week and congrats on nearly making it to Friday!
Love,
JN
