2023 Aspirations List

Hello and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! We celebrated on the 23rd since Erica worked all weekend, so the 24-25th ended up being very chill. I think we spent time reading, hanging out, cooking, and running/riding in the cold. It’s not often that I can casually relax and do (almost) nothing without losing my mind, but this weekend was great. Not to mention, my long run on Christmas felt fantastic and that was probably due to the chill nature of the previous days. It was also well and truly freezing out, which makes it way easier to bundle up and hang out in the guest bedroom with the space heater and the dogs.

Anyway, I’m not here to do a Christmas recap. I’m here to talk about my 2023 aspirations! I sat down a few days ago and, after reflecting on 2022 last week, considered what I wanted to do more of, less of, or try for the first time in 2023. I’d say that the 2023 list is similar in nature to my 2022 aspirations, but probably more vague. In 2022 I found myself developing habits or tendencies that I didn’t love, so 2023 is focused more on preventing ruts and nurturing the good habits.

Without further adieu, here are my 2023 aspirations (in no particular order):

  1. Go backpacking
  2. Swim more
  3. Develop better boundaries with work
  4. Say yes to more social events!
  5. Lean into the seasons
  6. Join a book club (for real)
  7. Find a running adventure that I’d love
  8. Talk to more strangers
  9. Get rid of clothes I don’t feel good in
  10. Eat more vegetables
  11. Go bikepacking
  12. LESS SCREENS
  13. Nurture friendships
  14. Write more often
  15. Spend more quality time with Patrick
  16. Spend less money on stuff and more on experiences
  17. Explore new places
  18. Volunteer
  19. Commit to adventure and get out of the house
  20. Find ease and peace in rest, without guilt or antsiness

I feel like the success of my whole list is contingent on my ability to uphold #12: LESS SCREENS. Guilty! All in all, the list is geared towards helping me become the version of myself that I want to (and know I can) be, rather than the convenient version. I am excited!

Do you have any goals/resolutions/aspirations for 2023?!
