My 5-9 Before My 9-5

The ‘My 5-9 Before My 9-5’ trend has been a relatively viral video concept on Instagram lately and I enjoy it. Obviously, much of what we see online is curated to make people’s lives seem perfect, but I do love to peek into people’s lives regardless. I do not have the patience to record myself, let alone edit those videos, so I figured I’d do a text version here. 🙂 Here’s my 5-9 Before My 9-5, with timestamps!

5:30 am: Sunrise alarm clock goes off. Lay in bed for another minute until my phone alarm goes off because the two are not synced and I can’t be bothered to fix it.

5:45 am: After rinsing my face and putting in contacts, get dressed to workout, fill up my water bottle, and head to the gym.

6:00 am: Lift! I use The Lyss Method’s Perform program and absolutely love it. (If I’ve already lifted for the week and we have our lives together enough, Patrick and I sometimes go top rope early in the AM!)

7:15 am: Get home, rinse off, sit on the couch with coffee to do the Wordle, Strands, Connections, and Mini Crossword of the day (IYKYK). If I’m feeling it, maybe I’ll knock out my Duolingo lesson too.

7:20 am: Light a candle to fit the rainy morning vibe.

7:25 am: Make some breakfast and get lunch together. I normally eat a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, but lately I’ve been enjoying breakfast tacos or peanut butter and banana toast.

7:40 am: Stand around the kitchen wondering if Patrick is going to remember he has a bus to catch. Realize I also need to start getting ready. Sometimes I’ll clean something or tidy up a bit.

7:55 am: Get dressed for work, do my skincare, put on some makeup, listen to the Up First episode of the day.

8:10 am: Steal the last of the coffee before Patrick can or brew a cup of iced coffee for the road.

8:20 am: Head to the office!

9:00 am: Arrive. Yeah, we don’t live that far away but traffic has no rhyme or reason here so sometimes it takes much longer than I’d like. I listen to podcasts in the car, so it all works out okay!

And that about does it! Sometimes, if I am tired or I’ve done all my lifts, I’ll just stay in bed until 7 am (like today). LOL. Make no mistake, when I get out of the early morning groove it takes a herculean effort to get back into it. I’ve found that it sets me up to have a good day, though, so it’s worth it! Also, I aim to be asleep by 9:30 each night… There are tradeoffs!

Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be running and listening to Cowboy Carter.
