I can’t explain it but this has been the longest week ever. The weather has been a mixture of rainy and hot and humid, I had plans on a few weeknights, and I shifted my running around a bit so my routine was a little out of whack. Nonetheless, it’s been a good week! Time did get away from me, though, so I nearly forgot about this little blog. No matter – we are back in action.
What I’m…
…Reading: Platonic Love on Substack. I think I came across this substack on Cup of Jo (can you tell I love reading blogs?) and immediately loved it. It’s the exact kind of content I want to read on the internet. It’s geared towards women my age, which is so refreshing, and is all around pleasant to read and peruse.
Side note: Substack is just WordPress and Blogspot 2.0 – you cannot change my mind on this!
…Eating: These turkey jerky sticks. I really like the Chomps turkey sticks but they’re expensive so I wanted to find a (slightly) cheaper alternative and these do the trick. They’ve got a decent amount of protein, are hyper palatable, and I can just throw them in my purse or backpack or whatever! I recommend pairing it with a hunk of parmesan cheese.
…Wearing: Sweat. Is that a normal answer? LOL. Who cares! Sweat has become a daily piece of my everyday wear. We’ve officially reached the point in the summer where it’s so hot and so humid and I am just over it. We’ve got some rain coming because of Tropical Storm Debby and that ought to drop the temps a bit but this humidity is sticking around.
…Listening to: The Olympics! Almost all my coworkers are traveling this week so I’ve had the office to myself and have been happily playing the Olympics in the background. I love track and field but the volleyball games have also had me on the edge of my seat!
…Drinking: Too few electrolytes. Again, this is the point of the summer when I am so over having to think about staying hydrated all the time. The humidity starts to feel so miserable that all I can think is “just survive” and end up skimping on electrolytes. Proper hydration changes ‘survive’ to ‘thrive’!
…Thinking About: How to get even more mentally prepared for my next MMT attempt. Registration opens on Halloween and I’m already thinking about the training process this next go around. I’m still reading Ultra Something by Brendan Leonard and it’s making me reflect on my own ultrarunning experience quite a bit.
…Excited For: My half marathon at the end of this month! I am trying to break my PR that has been standing since 2014 (2:05ish). I’m feeling pretty good about it, so cross your fingers that the humidity isn’t too atrocious. It’s been a brutal but productive training block this summer!
Bonus: I am also so so so excited for cooler weather runs. That first run in a long sleeve?! It’s going to be incredible.

What about you?!
