this week #20

Hey there! Long time no see. I sat down to write a few times over the last two weeks and felt uninspired. I’ll think of something that I want to write about and then I’ll stall out after a few paragraphs. Maybe I’ve gone too deeply into hibernation mode.

For the last two weeks, I simply cannot be bothered to get out of bed in the morning. It’s so comfy and warm! I don’t want to get up if I don’t have to. Seriously, though, I was probably sleeping 8-10 hours a night post-marathon. Now I am back in the swing of things and went to the gym at 6:00 am yesterday! Here’s to hoping I can keep that up.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: I’m currently reading The Art of Power by Nancy Pelosi and I just finished Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig. Pelosi’s book is quite good and very interesting. It has also reminded me that I have so much history to read up on! Two Twisted Crowns is the second book of the Shepherd King duology and I enjoyed it! It was a rare instance where the second book was better than the first and the concept was unique.

…Eating: Warm foods! It is officially cold here, so we’ve really been leaning into warm dishes with seasonal vegetables. This week we’ve got coconut curry lentils on the menu, as well as classic spaghetti, and veggie pot pie. I’ve got to say, I am particularly excited about the pot pie!

…Wearing: Make up, again. Y’all, my skin is seriously out of whack lately. I have been breaking out like a teenager and it is driving me nuts. I don’t know if it’s hormonal or weather or what and I can’t figure it out. In an effort to feel a little better about it, I’ve taken to wearing some very basic make up again. It works out well because the Ilia Skin Tint also has hyaluronic acid in it, which helps when the cold weather dries out my skin.

…Listening to: Bossypants by Tina Fey. This is the second audiobook I’ve listened to at the gym and it’s such a good time. Like, laughing out loud during squats. Tina Fey is ridiculously funny and it makes me smile. In terms of music, I’m really enjoying the song Colorado by Renee Rapp and Defying Gravity from the new Wicked movie.

…Trying: To go to bed a little earlier. During Thanksgiving I got into the habit of staying up later than usual, which may have contributed to the sleepiness in the morning. Since I have a busy few weeks of work, I decided it was time to get my sleep hygiene back on track.

…Thinking About: Christmas! I can’t wait. We bought our Christmas tree this weekend and last night I strung the lights up on it. Patrick and I have talked about making homemade pasta sometime during Christmas “break” which sounds so comforting and tasty.

…Excited For: A big weekend of running! I am officially training for MMT attempt #2! I’ve been looking forward to big weekends in the mountain and it will feel great to be off the roads for a while. Wish me luck toughening up to the cold again because right now I feel like a wimp about it – LOL.
