this week #28

Good morning and happy hump day! Today is a busy day for me. I woke up extra early to get my workout in because I have a full day at work and then a John Green book tour event tonight! It’s going to be a great day.

My workout this morning was tough, but I felt extremely accomplished after. I had to shower and get ready as quickly as possible to make it to work, though that’s part of the fun. Shout out to Patrick for leaving coffee for me to take! I am not really a morning runner, although I have to admit that running as the sun rises is pretty amazing. It’s a totally different feeling and it is nice to already have that portion of my day squared away.

Anyway, I can’t believe this is the 28th edition of this “newsletter” – to use that word very generously. Here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: I am still reading Demon Copperhead and A Bit Much, but I also started The End of Everything: (Astrophysically Speaking) by Dr. Katie Mack and it is an absolute trip. The universe is expanding infinitely into an infinite nothing?! It’s fun to read nonfiction that blows your mind.

…Eating: I had a bagel with avocado and ‘everything but the bagel’ seasoning on it recently and, wow, I forgot how good that was! I could see myself having a moment with avocado soon. Also, grapes. I have no clue when proper grape season is. I bought some the other week and they were firm and tasty, so I am rolling with it!

…Doing Instead of Doomscrolling: I finished writing all my postcards for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race and am now writing postcards for Abigail Spanberger for VA Governor.

…Listening to: The same crap over and over. I really want some new music! I know Spotify doesn’t actually generate anything truly new for me, but even some of the random playlists I look at are the same artists or the same vibe. It’s boring.

…Trying: To wake up earlier. So far? Very minor success. In my defense, I had to pick Patrick up from the airport at 2 am on Tuesday morning, so I am justified in my need for sleep! Frankly I was shocked when I felt awake when my alarm went off at 5 am today.

…Thinking About: Trying to be more creative. I have a draft blog post in the works about this, so I won’t elaborate too much. That said, I checked out the book You Are an Artist by Sarah Urist Green and did my first art “assignment” this week. It was fun! It was a shading project, so I used the brick exterior of our house. I am excited (and also slightly intimated) for the assignments to come!

…Excited For: A big weekend of running! I was supposed to do a big weekend last week, but that was ultimately thwarted by a dumb medical issue. Nonetheless, this weekend should be beautiful and full of time in the Massanutten Mountains – my favorite! Here’s to hoping I can get plenty of sleep on Thursday and Friday nights.

I hope you have a great week! Stay hydrated and well-fed, get good sleep, and fight fascism.

Love,

JN
