MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #31

How goes it? I’m having a pretty nice week and I am going bowling tomorrow! I am psyched. This weekend is full (and I mean FULL) of running, so I am trying to get my life in order before then. I can’t wait for Patrick to be home soon, too! He’s been off having a grand ole time in Belgium.

Here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: I am almost done with Demon Copperhead and, dare I say it, I might be sad when it ends! It was a long haul read but the story is so captivating and moving. I feel like I am living in real time with Damon. This morning I started the third book (Fearless by Lauren Roberts) of a trilogy I started last year. I have so many library books stacked up on our coffee table to get through, but I couldn’t resist the urge to read something I know will be easy and entertaining!

…Eating: Big salads with bell pepper, cucumber, carrots, sunflower seeds, blue cheese, and garlic and cheese croutons. This has been so ridiculously yummy to me lately. There’s just something about adding a funky, crumbly cheese to salad that elevates it! I’ve been eating leftover shredded chicken on the side to get my protein fix.

Bonus: I made these carrot cake muffins this week and they’re delicious! I froze half of them and am looking forward to getting into that stash. Highly recommend for a fun, spring treat!

Carrot cake muffin with a decaf coffee!

…Wearing: Asics Novablast 5! I celebrated a new running shoe day on Tuesday by breaking in my new Novablasts. The 5s are definitely different from the 4s, though it’s tricky for me to pinpoint exactly how. The 5s are still very comfortable, but they feel bigger and wider than the 4s. I didn’t love any of the colorways so I went with all white… We’ll see how long that lasts!

…Listening to: Waste A Moment by Kings of Leon. This song is almost 10 years old but I came across it again recently and it is such a good vibe. Listen to it on a walk, in the gym, while dancing around in your kitchen – you can’t go wrong!

…Trying: To work on my WordPress site (this blog)! Yesterday I was trying to edit things on the backend and see what features I could add. It’s pretty straightforward but there are some functionalities that don’t work all that well.

…Thinking About: How lifting feels good again! For a few weeks I was really struggling to manage both my lifting and running. It wasn’t that I was too sore or even too tired, but every time I was at the gym it just felt impossible to lift the type of weight I knew I could. I focused on filling my diet with more whole foods and less convenient calories and I think that helped a lot. I also got better about remembering to consume enough protein post-lifts so my recovery improved. I’m having so much fun moving weight around and feeling powerful! I am 100% noticing the strength translating to my running.

this block has Anderson squats which are a fun variety!

…Excited For: A pedicure (in over a month, lol). I scheduled pedicures for Patrick and I before MMT! This was recommended to me last year to help get rid of any calluses before the race. Turns out, you can develop blisters under calluses and then you’re really in trouble. Patrick probably doesn’t need a pedicure but it feels good and is a fun time!

Have a great weekend!

Love,

JN
