MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #39

Well, life continues on, doesn’t it? It’s a weird thing to have felt such loss last week and then you just… continue. I miss Bear and always will, and I don’t think I am done crying yet, but for now I am so grateful he’s at peace and that we still have Alaska to love on.

It certainly helps that we spent the weekend in Austin with family. Just what the doctor ordered! ❤

I’ve been trying so hard to be gentle with myself and allow myself to feel my feelings, so with that in mind, here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: I just finished Funny Story by Emily Henry (my first of hers!) and it was nice. I don’t think I could read a bunch of them back to back, but it was certainly a pleasant read. I’m not sure what I am going to read next. I have a large stack of library books that I need to get through, so I need to pick up the pace with my reading!

…Eating: Well, last week was sort of chaotic so we ate out a few times. I was not interested in cooking or cleaning whatsoever. On Wednesday, after Bear passed, we had “Burgers for Bear” down in Shirlington. We decided we are going to make it a tradition every July 2nd to honor him!

…Wearing: My UltraHuman ring. Patrick got this for my birthday so I could track my sleep, and I am enjoying seeing how well I sleep every night! The last few weeks with travel and then Bear have not been ideal, so I am hoping to catch up on some sleep in the coming weeks.

…Listening to: Stuff You Should Know again! I stopped listening to this podcast for a bit because I had so many others queued up, and I didn’t know how much I missed it until I listened to an episode on the plane yesterday. It’s definitely my comfort podcast.

…Trying: To get back into training. This summer has been rough on my running. It’s been so gross or rainy, we’ve been traveling a lot, and I have had a lot of random commitments since May. That said, I want to lock back in this week and get myself back into the routine of training. I know it makes me feel good, and I’ll be grateful for it when the fall rolls around and I am ready to party!

…Thinking About: How fun Austin is. I’m still not sure if I’d ever actually move back there, but it did feel great to be back this weekend. I love the space and the sky and the houses and the yummy foods! Plus, great coffee. The Arlington coffee scene is truly bad.

…Excited For: No more travel this month. I’ve loved all the travel we’ve done this season, make no mistake! And, I am looking forward to being home. Both in our actual house, but also out on Virginia trails and adventuring around. Truthfully, I’m also excited to spend a lot of time with Alaska. 🙂

I was telling Patrick again that this summer has been a rollercoaster and not at all what I expected, but what are you going to do?! I am rolling with it as best as I can, trying to have fun in the process, and simply wondering if this fall will feel extra cozy.

Love,

JN
