MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #48

I’m going rogue this week. Instead of following my normal format, I’m going to just go with my gut and update you on random things that I’ve found interesting or new or comforting in my life! Why not?!

It’s been a great week so far, even if I have been sleepier than usual. Normally I can get up right with my alarm, but over the last week or so? Not a chance. I’m pretty sure I need to be going to bed earlier and need more sleep overall but I will relish the opportunity to drink an afternoon coffee.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been…

…Plotting: For my running calendar. It’s a busy few months of running ahead and I am well and completely STOKED about it. I’ll take this as a very good sign considering I felt mentally burnt out from running all summer. I’m excited that everything I have planned feels doable so I can focus my training more on staying strong and getting fitter and less on the sheer scale of what I’m doing (hello, MMT, I’m talking about you).

Anyway, here’s the plan:

  • November: Richmond Marathon
  • December: Boyer’s Furnace (~40ish miles)
  • February: Cabin Fever 50k
  • April: Falling Water 100k (or maybe Gorge Waterfalls 100k?! Do I travel that far for a race? Will it sell out anyway? TBD.)

…Reading: Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie. Finally! I’ve truly been waiting months to read this so that I could enjoy it during spooky season. I’m also really excited to watch the movie afterwards.

…Procrastinating: Unclogging our upstairs tub. I don’t know what the deal is with that tub, but occasionally it gets clogged and then randomly unclogs. We even have a hair catcher thing over the drain to prevent that from becoming an issue. Fortunately, we have a shower downstairs too, so that’s what we’ve been using. I need to stop being lazy and just get a drain snake.

…Craving: Some truly cold weather! Do you know how badly I’ve been wanting to wear a sweater? But I can’t! We’ve had better weather lately, but it’s still been getting annoyingly warm and humid. I want to turn on the oven to roast something or bake something without sweating – thank you very much.

…Enjoying: The new Taylor Swift album, taking the train to work sometimes, learning about astrophysics, home cooked meals, coffee in bed, listening to the backlog of Dear Hank and John episodes, reading people’s Substacks (aka their blogs), more Halloween decorations popping up around the neighborhood, putting my running shoes away in an orderly way, the autumn-scented bar of soap Patrick got me, getting dressed more intentionally, and cuddling with Alaska.

Have a great rest of your week!
