Good morning, and happy Saturday! I slept in and am chilling on the couch before I eventually get around to doing my run for the day. After a few nights of staying up late, I needed it. Not to mention, it’s freezing outside. I am in no rush to get out there!
It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these, so here’s what I’ve been…
…Reading: I just finished Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid last night, and am still working on Milky Way by Moiya McTier. Atmosphere was so beautiful… I wish I hadn’t spoiled it for myself! Next up, I am hoping to read A Murder is Announced by my girl Agatha. Erica and I are reading it together-ish, but my hold at the library isn’t available yet. I’ve also got a book of poems that became available on Kindle!

…Eating: Buddha bowls and Korean turkey bowls, mostly. I also made this Tuna Avocado Bowl, which was pretty good but not my favorite. I think I would’ve preferred it on a sandwich or in a pita, instead of over rice! Since one of my 2026 goals is to vary my meals (and generally prep a bit more in advance), I’ve gathered some recipes I’m hoping to try soon!
Here are a few that I found particularly intriguing:
…Enjoying: Time off adventures! On New Year’s Eve, we realized we were out of good coffee beans, so we went to a coffee shop we’d never been to in ALX! It’s called Hypergoat. I’ve probably been near it a thousand times and didn’t realize it existed. It reminded me of Austin coffee shops! Good throwback vibes.

…Listening to: like JENNIE by JENNIE. I heard this during one of my Peloton rides and loved it. Great for running, lifting, and generally feeling like a badass.
…Trying: To focus on enjoying winter rather than spending all my energy wishing for spring to come… Much easier said than done. A neighbor moved out recently and we got some fun leftover stuff that screams spring: an A-frame trellis for our garden (here’s to more cucumbers!), a glass pitcher that will be perfect for lemonade, and a few other garden accessories!
I’m having a harder time tolerating the cold this year. I’m not sure why! Probably because we’ve also had a very gray and cloudy winter, so we’re not getting much sunshine to temper the conditions.
…Thinking About: How to better organize our basement. We’ve got lots of bikes that we’d like to try to hang on a sliding rack, but that project seems… intense. There’s a mix of kitchen overflow, bikes, and general athletic supplies/gear down there, and I know there’s so much potential to organize it all really well… It’s just a little overwhelming to start. I’ve joked that we need a big blizzard so that we’d be more willing to stay inside and commit to a project like that!
…Discovering: Juliana Place! I was on a run on NYE and needed to check my map to make sure I was making a correct turn. When I zoomed in on the area, I noticed Juliana Place just two blocks away! I had to make the extra excursion, duh. Anyone out and about probably thought I was insane, but it’s not every day that I see my name (especially spelled correctly) out in the world!

Happy weekending! I’m planning to enjoy these last few days before I have to face the realities of really going back to work. It’s been a lovely break!

Love,
JN
