Adult Summer Camp

I have sooo many photos to share with y’all from my awesome vacation to Arkansas with Sabrina. Full stop: it was adult summer camp. I arrived in Bentonville on Thursday night and each day basically went like this:

  • Leisurely morning
  • Ride bikes
  • Have post-ride coffee
  • Go out to lunch
  • Find a body of water to swim in
  • Make dinner
  • Chill and go to bed

It was glorious! Plus, I changed my flight home to road trip back to OKC with Sabrina, so I had bonus family time there. It was so good.

If you like the outdoors and friendly people, you’ve got to go to Bentonville. I’m not sure if it’s the best for trail running necessarily, but it was grand ole time on bikes! I brought my gravel bike, so we scoped out the NW Arkansas gravel roads. Next time I’d absolutely want to bring my MTB and try out those trails!

Friday!

I brought Sabrina a matching cycling crop top! We rode into Bentonville from her house to explore, have lunch, and generally spin out our legs.
Iced coffee at Meteor with our bikes hanging outside!
Necessary grocery store purchase. We did some damage on this in just a few days!
Swimming in a creek right by their house. It was beautiful but cold!
Sitting in a chair in the creek. Does life get better than this?

Saturday!

Our first gravel ride! We went NW of Bentonville. It was hilly and chunky, but very doable!
Plus, there was so much beautiful tree cover!
Instead of coffee, I had a lavender lemonade from Airship. This coffee shop is located in a park and only accessible by foot or bike.
Ordered the biggest sandwich ever. It was sooooo good. I brought half of it home in my bike bag!
Went to the lake beach to swim!
Headed to the park to catch the town fireworks! There are no mosquitoes here. It was the weirdest and best thing. Thanks for the great fireworks display, Walmart!

Sunday!

More gravel riding! SW this time towards the airport. It was a lot flatter and the gravel was a lot redder. It was a beautiful day!
Each day it got to about 90 degrees. The temps felt downright lovely compared to DC!
We went to Onyx for our post-ride coffee of the day.
And ate leftovers for lunch! I love a plate like this.
After lunch we tried to go hunting for blackberries to harvest! This photo was from a random bush on the side of the road. The trail we ended up hiking on had a pitiful number of blackberries!
But we did hike to this pretty waterfall!
And then we headed back to the lake with Sabrina’s pack rafts to float around! I love a lake.

Monday!

Monday was spent packing, driving back to OKC, and then hanging out with my nieces all afternoon! Before we left Bentonville, we went to a Casey’s so that I could try their breakfast pizza. Patrick has told me all about Casey’s since he grew up with them. It was pretty tasty!
Sabrina and I also hit up once of my favorite OKC spots… HTeaO. Freaking delicious!

Tuesday!

Sabrina had to work on Tuesday, but we got up early to get a fun run in! I’m not a morning runner but an early morning July run feels especially summery.
Then I hopped on my bike and road around with my mom on her e-bike! It was such a fun morning.
And before heading to the airport, we had to get my absolute fav: a turkey Oklahoma burger from Tucker’s. Yum, I am salivating just looking at this photo. DELICIOUS.

When I got home on Tuesday night, I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow. I had an absolute blast! Sometimes, as an adult, I feel like I overhype things in my head and then end up ever so slightly disappointed (sorry if this sounds depressing, I think that’s just adulthood!). That said, that did not happen on this trip. It was 10/10 fun all the way through. It truly felt like summer vacation! Water, sunshine, biking around, eating delicious food – I was in heaven!

Go to Bentonville. It’s way cooler than you’d expect! And I know a great Airbnb you could rent 😉

Love,

JN
