MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #24

Hi, it’s been a few weeks! January has proved to be very, very busy. And insane. Between work, running, life, and the state of the world generally, I have felt so worn out. Every time I have sat down to write something, I become overwhelmed with the work of it and simply cannot muster the brain power to do it. In fact, I sat down this evening to write about something else and felt too tired to draft it! Aye aye aye.

Nonetheless, I love writing in this space and I am happy to be here 🙂 Here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros came out on the 21st and I spent three days binge reading it. It took me a minute to warm up to it fully, but I really liked it! I hate that it’s going to be a long while until the next one comes out, but that’s what you get when you start an unfinished series! I’m also reading Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor and am absolutely loving it. It is so thoughtful and inspiring and I’ve already started working to shift my mindset more regularly.

…Eating: My appetite has been so wonky lately, so none of the food we’ve had in the house has inspired me much. I got home from a long run today and Patrick had made veggie lentil soup and I enjoyed that immensely. I also picked up a fun salad dressing (Mexican Goddess) from Fresh Market recently, so that has made my salads extra exciting!

The other day I got in from a cold run in the dark and was too lazy to change out of my running clothes right away. I put together a salad for dinner and remarked to Patrick that I was so cold that I was going to get pneumonia while eating… No dramatics or anything.

…Wearing: SHORTS. Today the high was in the 40s and I ran in shorts! Considering how cold it has been in Arlington lately, I frolicked around like it was a beautiful April day. I swear I even saw small tan lines on my legs. I think the high is supposed to be in the 50s this Wednesday and I am PSYCHED.

…Listening to: Dirtbag Diaries. I forgot how much I enjoyed this podcast until I downloaded some episodes for my runs this weekend! I really enjoyed this one about an ultra-endurance cyclist. I always feel inspired by the stories on that podcast!

…Buying: I am still very much in my “spend less on dumb things” era and loving it. That said, I finally decided it was time to buy a new wireless mouse for my home office. Instead of being able to use my wireless keyboard and extra screen, I’ve been stuck working off of my single laptop screen. Work has been busy enough that I decided I could justify buying a new mouse – LOL.

…Thinking About: How well I’ve been practicing eating on my runs. Ultramarathons are, in many ways, an eating competition and underfueling can be a disaster. I’ve been working on getting in more carbs every hour and today I managed 60+ grams of carbs per hour on my long run. Shout out to Gu Roctane Drink Mix. I simply could not do it without you, my 59 g of carbs per serving King.

also really enjoying these!

…Excited For: Patrick and I are going to Grand Cayman in May!!! Multiple exclamation points needed. We’ve been talking about doing something like this for a while and have perused Costco travel options, but never committed. This morning I looked at the cost of Costco packages versus booking things separately and ultimately decided to send it and make this trip happen. It’ll be a post-MMT + my 30th birthday + our 5th wedding anniversary extravaganza!

I hope the week ahead is wonderful for you (despite Trump, tbh)! Love ya!
