Let me describe the atmosphere I’m in as I type this: it’s raining (a lot!), my favorite Spotify summer jazz playlist is on softly in the background, and freshly baked chocolate chip zucchini bread is sitting on the stove.
I know I’ve complained a lot about the weather this summer – and I do feel justified! – but right now I’m digging this ambience. I am supposed to run tonight, so we’ll see if this rain ever stops. Normally I’d push through since it’s important to learn to run in any condition, but I think I’ve demonstrated that I can run in the rain!
Anyway, here’s what I’ve been…
…Reading: I finished Crooked House by Agatha Christie (great but creepy!) and then Bear pulled it off the couch and ate the cover… Love that, thanks Bear. I just started a book called The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore, and we’ll see how it goes! I can’t even recall what inspired me to pick it up, and it’s certainly not my normal book choice. I will report back!

I also stumbled across Feeling! Magazine on Substack and it is so lovely.
…Eating: Popcorn, pizza sandwiches, fried rice with edamame, yogurt bowls – a big variety! I’ve been unexpectedly enjoying cooking lately. Maybe it’s because much of what we’ve made the last few weeks has yielded a lot of leftovers? I love leftovers! They make lunch and busy evenings so much easier.

…Wearing: The HDrop sweat testing device?? I don’t think that’s what it’s technically called. Close enough! I wear it on my arm and it tells me how much I’ve sweat and the sweat composition. This is useful to help me stay properly hydrated before, during, and after runs! It was not cheap and was a pretty spontaneous purchase… Oops!
…Committing To: Respecting my 15 minute time limit on Instagram. I set app limits a while back and was really good about respecting it… until recently. I don’t know what it is but I keep allowing myself 15 more minutes… and then 15 more minutes… and then I feel like my brain is mush and am sort of irritated and wonder why?!
…Trying: To celebrate little things and lean into seasons/occasions/etc. One night I dimmed the lights and lit some candles as Patrick and I sat down for dinner. It was like we were having a romantic dinner in a fancy restaurant! I want to recreate the magic of life as a kid.
…Thinking About: Going to a group run tomorrow morning. I’ve been wanting to go to this run for a while and kept making excuses to myself about the quick turnaround it would require to get to the office. Well, no work tomorrow means no excuses!
…Excited For: Our trip this weekend! We are finally off to visit some friends that we were supposed to see last summer.
I hope you are having a nice week!
Love,
JN
