Juliana Moves

MOVE·MENT: the progressive development of a poem or story.

this week #43

Hi! Three posts in three days! I guess I’ve just had a lot on my mind. I am trying to soak up the rest of summer before I start my new job after Labor Day. Oh, yeah! Surprise! I am starting a new job soon 🙂 Long story short, I was offered an opportunity I couldn’t say no to. I wasn’t looking or even seriously considering a move, so it was a pleasant surprise and I am very excited.

Starting a new job in September has the same energy as going back to school for me. I even have to fight the urge to buy new clothes! Anyway, it’s making me appreciate the time I’ll have off and these last few weeks of summer even more. In that vein, here’s what I’ve been…

…Reading: When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi and Salty: Lessons on Eating, Drinking, and Living from Revolutionary Women by Alissa Wilkinson. Wow, such drastically different books and both so fantastic. The Scalzi book is science fiction and follows a few story lines in a world where the moon suddenly turns into cheese. It isn’t necessarily written as a comedy, but it is so comedic. (I also loved Scalzi’s Starter Villain last year). Salty is so beautiful and inspiring and makes me want to consume art and host a bunch of dinner parties. Plus, I am learning about so many cool women for the first time!

…Eating: Peach cobbler muffins! Another successful recipe from my Summer Cooking To Do List. I did not measure out the amount of chopped peach I threw into these and so I ended up with a lumpy batter primarily composed of fruit. I figured I might just end up with a mini cobbler situation and it was excellent! This recipe seems pretty adaptable too, so I look forward to trying it with seasonal fruit all year.

…Procrastinating: Updating my Italian passport. ACK! I hit a wall with the application when I needed to upload some documents and then I just stopped pursuing it. WAIT! I stopped mid-writing to just finish the application and I even gathered all my documents, but the website crashes every time I try to upload them. Classic Italy. I will try again on a different computer soon.

UPDATE AGAIN! I had to change file formats for my documents multiple times. HOWEVER! I successfully uploaded them all and submitted my application! YAY! It wasn’t the passport application – that comes later – but it is a solid step in the right direction.

…Listening to: Punkrocker by Teddybears and Iggy Pop. This song is in the new Superman movie and I love it! It brings a smile to my face.

…Trying: To remember to take more photos! It sort of bums me out when I realize I haven’t taken any photos in a week or so. I feel like life is just getting past me and I’m not taking the opportunity to capture good moments. Do I want to be off my phone enjoying the present? Of course! But I want to capture memories, too.

…Thinking About: Bear. I’ve been missing him a lot lately and really feeling his absence when we’re all hanging out in the house. Rest easy, buddy! Love you lots!

…Excited For: Some trail running this weekend! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been out in the Massanuttens and I am eager to run on some dirt. Cross your fingers that the weather is decent-ish and that I can bring myself to wake up earlier enough for a group run out there!

I hope you soak up the rest of summer too! Go swimming, eat a peach, wear a spaghetti strap dress, whatever floats your boat!

Love,

JN
