Good morning, and hello from a freezing cold Arlington! Let me check the weather app… Yep, it’s currently 31 degrees, feels like 15. I have today off, so we had planned to go out to our section of the Tuscarora Trail to do some maintenance, but I think you can understand why we opted to save that for another day.
It’s been a cozy morning. We still have flannel sheets on the bed, Patrick set up our mini Christmas tree on the dresser yesterday, we brought our coffee upstairs, and Alaska was cozied up too! Not bad at all.

Last week I wrote about how tired I was right as a busy week was beginning and boy, things were just getting started. On Friday night, I slept 11 hours. It was a long, chaotic week, but all went well. In that time, here’s what I’ve been…
…Reading: Still working on The Anthropocene Reviewed, but I also started Paper Towns by John Green! I thought I had read this book as a teen, but apparently not. I decided to DNF An Economist Gets Lunch for now; something I rarely do, so I’m proud of myself! Instead, I’ve begun reading Eyeliner: A Cultural History by Zahra Fatima Hankir and, though I rarely wear make up, it already has me wanting to try out some eyeliner for fun.
…Eating: Carbs carbs carbs. With the marathon coming up on Saturday, I am going to officially begin my carb load on Wednesday. This is such a fun time of the year for me LOL. I already completed my annual making of Featherstone Nutrition’s Carb Load Crispy Treats. Starting Wednesday, I see a lot of bagels in my future. I just need to get back on my hydration game!

…Wearing: Long sleeves on the run! Yesterday I wore one of my Patagonia Mid Weight long sleeves for the first time this season. It wasn’t quite leggings temperatures yet (although today would be), so I opted for shorts, and my legs were perfectly cold and a little numb. It was one of those runs that felt like a celebration of movement and joy. Glorious.

…Listening to: House featuring John Cale by Charli xcx. WOW. I love this song. This may come as a surprise to many, but this is one of my favorite styles of music. Dark and grandiose and instrumental and intense. Ugh, I love it. I think I’ve listened to it 10 times already.
Heads up: there’s a bit of delayed gratification to this song, but it’s worth it. Just sit and listen and enjoy. Here’s what Erica had to say about it (LOL):

…Procrastinating: Organizing our house. We have a few places in our home where we just collect stuff. Some of it gets used, some of it just sits, and some of it simply needs to be thrown out! I’m looking at you, coffee and dining room tables.
…Trying: To learn how to identify different trees. The other day we were doing trail work, and some of the guys we were with knew every single tree and plant around us. It was so awesome, and it inspired me to learn more about the very nature I enjoy so much. On Sunday’s run, I stopped at so many different trees to take photos of the leaves and learn which tree they belonged to.

…Thinking About: Different things I’d like to write on this blog. This blog has always sort of functioned as a time capsule for me. I love to click through my archives and cringe or reminisce or generally reflect on where I was at that point in my life. I have various topics and formats that I’d like to try out, but they’d require me to commit more time to writing the posts. I’m not against that, but I don’t want it to take the fun out of this whole experience. We’ll see!
…Excited For: The Richmond Marathon this weekend! I am feeling so fit and strong and fast. I absolutely can’t wait to see what happens out there. I’m generally trying to PR my marathon time (currently 4:38:10), but have no specific time in mind. I just want to see how fast I can go!
I hope you have a wonderful week and are staying cozy wherever you are!
Love,
JN
