Happy Friday! I hope you’ve been having a wonderful day. It was a weird week over here at Casa Nicolini Mannon. Our sweet dog Alaska had a series of really hard days and we were very concerned. We took her to the vet on Wednesday and she seems to be doing better, but is generally getting very old and unsteady. Fortunately, the vet was encouraging and there wasn’t anything outright wrong so we’re both feeling a lot better.
Beyond that, I had a decently busy week at work, have been adjusting to the increased temps, and am gearing up for quite a bit of work travel over the next few weeks. Everything to come is going to be fun, so no complaints from me, but it’ll be hard to be away for Alaska and Patrick!
Between the work, running, sleeping, socializing, here’s what I’ve been…
…Reading: I just finished North Woods by Daniel Mason. Wow. Maybe one of the best books I’ve ever read. I cannot recommend it enough and I’m so grateful our neighbor lent it to me! I also finished The Comfort of Crews: A Backyard Year by Margaret Renkly and loved that too. The books are wildly different, but both of them make you want to just be outside.
Now I’m onto Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie (my girl!), Hot Dog: A Global History by Bruce Kraig (a shockingly great read), and Orbital by Samantha Harvey. Since I’ve got so many plane rides and hotel stays over the next few weeks, I’m hoping to get a lot of reading done.

…Eating: I have no idea. Our grocery shopping has been sort of whacky due to some unfortunately cancelled travel, so every day is an adventure in meal-making. We’ve both lamented being an ingredient household multiple times over the last 10 days. I don’t want to go out to eat constantly though, which means we are working with what we’ve got. Last weekend I did enjoy a classic trailgate situation and some popsicles I bought on a whim so I could eat one as I walked home from the grocery store!

…Wearing: Hats! Y’all, I’m a hat person now. I used to think I looked dumb in a baseball cap, especially when my hair exploded from the sides, but now I love them. I started wearing them enough when I ran that I just got used to it. I love that it helps protect my face from the sun, and I don’t have to worry about my hair being frizzy and my baby hairs going wild.

…Listening to: A slew of random music I’ve come across lately. Some that I’ve been enjoying at the gym or on runs include: Shameless by Camila Cabello, 1-800 by bbno$ and Ironmouse, and Nonmonogamummy by Lily Allen.
…Trying: To organize and sort through my closet! I don’t have a ton of clothes, so I want to make sure I am fully utilizing what I do have. And, if I want to slowly collect new pieces, I want to be thoughtful and smart about it. I turned all the hangers around in my closet, and I am going to try to wear everything at least once. If I don’t wear it, don’t like wearing it, or find that I keep wishing I had a specific type of item, I will make it a point to pull it from the closet and eventually replace it with something more useful! I’m actually so excited about this.
Every once in a while, I get the verve to care more about my appearance and generally try to curate my outfits more, so I have to lean in while the feeling is fresh!
…Thinking About: The pool. I am planning to get out there this evening to read and splash around! It’s summer time!
…Excited For: This summer season. It’s already getting hot hot hot out there, and (as previously stated) I do have some work travel coming, but I am generally so pumped for the next many months. I can’t wait to keep running and riding and playing outside! Plus, summer produce?! Come on. Our little garden is going strong too!

I hope you have a great weekend!
Love,
JN
